CHOOSE...

You Owe It To Yourself Because you spend more time being a patient at home than in a hospital!

Traditionally, the physician selects the provider or seeks assistance from the hospital's discharge plan-

ners.

Remember, all companies that provide home infusionare for-profit. They may be housed in a hospital, but they make money for that hospital, and your allegiance should be to yourself.

Choose your Home Care more carefully then you would car shop and with the same freedom of choice with which you choose your primary care physician. Research your options and tell your physician or discharge planner of your choice.

Massachusetts governor orders domestic partner benefits

Boston--Massachusetts Gov. William Weld (R) last week signed two executive orders granting domestic partner benefits to gays in the state.

In accordance with the state's gay rights law, Weld signed one order enabling gay state employees to take bereavment leave or personal leave in the event of death or serious illness of a partner or family member. The second order allows visitation at state mental institutions, including hospitals and prisons, for partners of gays who are patients, inmates, or residents at the institutions.

Weld said in a statement before signing the order that it was designed to ensure freedom and equality for gays in the state.

West Virginia mayor backs gay rights ordinance

Huntington, W.Va.--The mayor and four of the nine members of the city council in this Ohio River community are supporting a gay rights group's attempt to add "sexual orientation" to the city's human rights act.

The Huntington Campaign for Human Rights approached Mayor Robert Nelson and asked if he would support the addition of "sexual orientation" to a human relations act which provides for protection in housing, employment, and public accommodations, according to the campaign's spokesperson, Jim Buresch.

Nelson told the group he will ask the council to sponsor the amendment. Two council members, Arley Johnson and Betty Barette, have said they will co-sponsor the measure, which requires two readings.

The town of 70,000 is across the Ohio River from the southernmost tip of Ohio.

Hospital pharmacist wins HIV discriminination case

New York--In the first federal HIVrelated civil rights enforcement action, the Department of Health and Human Services ruled that a major medical center in New York discriminated against an HIV-positive pharmacist when it refused to hire him without restrictions on his duties.
